She can also be really bossy. If we leave food out she will only get into it if we forget to tell her goodbye when we leave her alone. Kacee's birthday is today. She is 5 human years old. Her name was Aria when she was born at Whispering Shelties in Iowa but we changed her name to Kacee. She loves St Patrick's day when I dress her up in green. What fun! She's a sweet girl who loves when the grand children come over. She helps keep them clean by licking their clothes and hands.
Day to day diary of a mom about her sweet little Shelties. Observations, emotions, and just plain Sheltie talking about her spoiled rotten, intelligent and loving friends. Because her human kids are grown and the little ones still at home are of the four legged kind.

Kacee post spay
Kacee came home after her spay and did just fine. I do find that she is eating much more than she did before. She seems to be a bit more nervous or emotional. She barks her backtalk at us as we let her outside if we don't accompany her. We have all noticed the same behavior from Kacee.

About Louie
Louie came to me in 1994 about a month after the Fourth of July that year. She was named Lacy Lou after our other other Sheltie that died at the age of 11. My other Sheltie was named Lacy and she died on the Fourth of July. It was a bad time for us. We had to have a Sheltie in the house as Lacy left us with a tremendous hole in our hearts. My husband, at the time (we divorced), found someone that had pups to sell. We immediately found ourselves driving over to look at them. Excitement, mixed with sorrow and guilt that we were replacing our beloved Lacy so soon after her death made me a little resistent. I had a slight hope that this new pup would be our Lacy's chance to come back and be with us again.
I saw Louie looking at us from the back of the box. She and her siblings were on display and they were all were so bright looking and showing off for us. She looked at me, caught my eye but didn't come to see me like the others. They were throwing themselves at me. Louie looked at me like she didn't have a chance. She was smaller than the others and more beautiful as I think of it. Her eyes betrayed her intelligence.
I picked her out from all the rest. She cuddled with me and barely fit in my hands, a tiny pup and eager to come with us. She was our sweetie from day one.
Even though her name was Lacy Lou, she was such a tomboy that we called her Louie. She was an athlete. Louie taught us how to fetch, and throw like pros. Both of my Shelties were very smart. She was a lazy persons dog.
I love to talk about my Louie. She is both remarkable and precious. I have three grown sons, and they don't like when I talk about them. I created the blog to be able to talk about Louie. I call her their little sister. They really don't mind and I think they accept her as a little sis.
I also thought I would write about Louie as she can't read.
Yet.

Louie said goodbye today
Our sweet Louie went to heaven today this 18th day of March. On her way she kissed us all and said goodbye. I know she worried about us much more than herself, that was her way. We watched as she drifted into His arms. Heaven was waiting for her. She can now walk and run without pain, see everything with sharp eyes especially the squirrels as they dance around her, she can hear the birds chirping and her mom and dad calling her to come inside, she is running and playing without running out of breath like she did in her young pup days. She was a fortunate pup who didn't meet a person that didn't love her.
She is close by when we call her and I feel her watching over her family still. We were a lucky family that she chose us.
She was here only 14 years, that went much too quickly.
Louie went back to Heaven today.

This is Louie back in July of 2005. I can't believe time goes so fast and she is still quick and ready to play. Louie tires faster than she did even a year ago and the grey is more prominent around her muzzle and snout.
We go through a routine of asking her to do a trick when we give her a treat. Lately she grumbles but does it, just don't ask her too many times or she will bark her back talk at you.

Aria, and even though I love that name,

we renamed her.
With her sisters

She developed her attitude very early

Rocky's first time in the snow
Rocky in the snow. He hates to be cold. After this, he shivered and curled up near us. He likes the comforts that's for sure!

Fall in MO

Here's Louie in the back yard. Fall leaves everywhere the day before Gregg hops on his mower to mulch. Louie loves to run in the leaves.
She has plenty of space to run.

Princess

Our sweet Princess passed away this summer on one of the hottest days of the year. We had three digit temperatures almost daily during that time. Princess had been outside that day. When my son's girlfriend returned from work, Princess had already left for his trip to heaven. Princess was about 3 years old, a beautiful collie. She was waiting to move into her new home which her papa Enrique was preparing. It was a very sad Summer.

The Kiss
The Kiss... (From Marty)
He had just saved her from a fire in her house,
rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard,
while he continued to fight the fire.
She was pregnant.
When he finally got done putting the fire out,
he sat down to catch his breath and rest.
A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper,
"The Observer," noticed her in the distance looking at the fireman.
He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and
wondered what she was going to do.
As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man
who had saved her life and the lives of her babies
and kissed him just as the photographer snapped this photograph.(Embedded image moved to file:

A Dog's Prayer
A beautiful poem from Louies gram-papa.
A DOG'S PRAYER
by Berth Norman Harris
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.Speak to me often , for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail
when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements.
And I ask for greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do you bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready,
willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger. And, beloved master should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.
Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest---and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
