Rocky's first time in the snow

Rocky in the snow. He hates to be cold. After this, he shivered and curled up near us. He likes the comforts that's for sure!

Autumn Lou

Louie waiting for me to put down the camera and play tuggie with her.

Fall in MO

Here's Louie in the back yard. Fall leaves everywhere the day before Gregg hops on his mower to mulch. Louie loves to run in the leaves.

She has plenty of space to run.

Princess

Our sweet Princess passed away this summer on one of the hottest days of the year. We had three digit temperatures almost daily during that time. Princess had been outside that day. When my son's girlfriend returned from work, Princess had already left for his trip to heaven. Princess was about 3 years old, a beautiful collie. She was waiting to move into her new home which her papa Enrique was preparing. It was a very sad Summer.

The Kiss

The Kiss... (From Marty)

He had just saved her from a fire in her house,
rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard,
while he continued to fight the fire.

She was pregnant.

When he finally got done putting the fire out,
he sat down to catch his breath and rest.

A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper,
"The Observer," noticed her in the distance looking at the fireman.

He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and
wondered what she was going to do.

As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man
who had saved her life and the lives of her babies
and kissed him just as the photographer snapped this photograph.(Embedded image moved to file:

A Dog's Prayer

A beautiful poem from Louies gram-papa.

A DOG'S PRAYER
by Berth Norman Harris
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.Speak to me often , for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail
when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements.
And I ask for greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do you bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready,
willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger. And, beloved master should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.
Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest---and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

Squirrels and dogs can be friends

Hi Tina,
As a fellow dog-lover I thought you might be interested in this.
"Finnegan" the squirrel
For about as long as she can remember, Debby Cantlon says, friends and strangers have brought her animals in need. So it wasn't much of a surprise when someone asked her if she'd care for a newborn squirrel found at the base of a tree somewhere near Renton. Debby Cantlon, who plans to release Finnegan, the young squirrel, back into the wild, bottle-fed the infant squirrel after it was brought to her house. Cantlon, who has cancer, says rescuing injured animals is therapeutic for her. When Cantlon took in the tiny creature and began caring for him, she found herself with an nlikely nurse's aide: her pregnant Papillon, Mademoiselle Giselle. Finnegan was resting in a nest in a cage just days before Giselle was due to deliver her puppies.
Cantlon and her husband watched as the dog dragged the squirrel's cage - twice - to her own bedside before she gave birth.Cantlon was concerned, yet ultimately decided to allow the squirrel out - and the inter-species bonding began. Finnegan rides a puppy mosh pit of sorts, burrowing in for warmth after feeding, and eventually working his way beneath his new litter mates.

Two days after giving birth, mama dog Giselle allowed Finnegan to nurse; family photos and a videotape show her encouraging him to suckle alongside her litter of five pups. Now, Finnegan mostly uses a bottle, but still snuggles with his "siblings" in a mosh pit of puppies, rolling atop their bodies and sinking in deeply for a nap. Finnegan and his new litter mates, five Papillion puppies, get along
together as if they
were meant to.
Finnegan naps after feeding. Finnegan makes himself at home with his new litter mates, nuzzling nose-to-nose for a nap after feeding.

Unconditional Love

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
If a dog were your teacher, you would learn stuff like:

When loved-ones come to me, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout... run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

And MOST of all...
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Louie watching the squirrels in the big tree out the front window. Posted by Hello

Mighty Squirrel Hunter

She stayed back, way up on the deck. Looking over the yard she walked slowly and quietly down the steps. She paused as she listened and watched her prey. Almost to the bottom of the steps she watched the little one stop in it's tracks. They both looked at each other. The little one knew what would happen next, it was the same every day.

Each day the hunter seemed to out think the little one. With their hearts beating hard, they ran, the hunter following close behind the little one. Running and jumping into the trees, away from the hunter the little one flew. Barking up at the tree, "I almost got you today, I will return!"
The little one, out of breath, squealed down at the hunter watching and laughing at the hunter far below. The hunter could not climb trees.

The little one watched as the hunter left up the stairs and into the big tree with windows. They would begin the ritual again in the morning, until then, the hunter would watch from a perch on the sofa which looked out of the big picture window where she could watch her front yard and the big tree. The same tree where the little one would sit and watch the hunter, waiting for their next encounter.
I received this from another friend who lost her dear pup to an illness.
The puppy, even though he died before turning a year old had left a huge hole in their hearts when he left. The following was sent to her to help her through this loss.

"I explained it to St. Peter,
I'd rather stay here
Outside the pearly gate.
I won't be a nuisance,
I won't even bark,
I'll be very patient and wait,
I'll be here, chewing on a celestial bone,
No matter how long you may be.
I'd miss you so much, if i went in alone,
It wouldn't be heaven for me."

Lucky the dog story

My very good friend Marty send me this cute story about Lucky. She lost a long time companion named Teddy a year or so ago.
****
Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and may decide you need one.

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a
real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come
for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to
not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help
himself to whatever struck his fancy.

Inevitably someone would forget and something would
come up missing. Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy
box in the basement and there the treasure would be,
amid all of Lucky's favorite toys. Lucky always
stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very
particular that his toys stay in the box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer.
Something told her she was going to die of this
disease... she was just sure it was fatal. She
scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her
shoulders. The night before she was to go to the
hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck
her... what would happen to Lucky? Although the
three-year-old dog liked Jim he was Mary's dog through
and through. If I die Lucky will be abandoned, Mary
thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to
leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking
of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her
doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for
over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk
faithfully but the dog just drooped, whining and
miserable. But finally the day came for Mary to leave
the hospital.

When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she
couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim
made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to
nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to
her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon
overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand
what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her
body felt heavy and hot. Panic soon gave way to
laughter though when Mary realized the problem. she
was covered, literally blanketed in every treasure
Lucky owned! While she had slept the sorrowing dog had
made trip after trip to the basement and back bringing
his beloved mistress his favorite things in life. He
had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began
living again, walking further and further together
every night. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still
cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and
stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his
greatest treasure.

Live everyday to the fullest... because every day is a
blessing from God!

Louie's ears are up and she looks scared as she hears the storm outside. Shes a big sissy in this weather. Posted by Hello

The hail was coming down and the new car caught some damage. I had a few dings but they were barely visible as were the ones on my husbands car.  Posted by Hello

Storm night

Louie was a mess on storm night, like most nights that include boomers, she was shaking. Unfortunately I had given her a close Summer cut and with the high wind and rain it turned cool. She is very afraid of storms. We watched as the inch round hail hit our cars and caused damage we have yet to report. I uploaded a photo of Lou with her papa as she watched out the back door where the rain was coming down. We all survived.

Shelti-huahua

Funny looking dog looking out the window at squirrels is Louie. She was severly shaved on Saturday but is loving it. She acts like a little puppy when she is without the heavy fur. I honestly think she jumps higher and is more cuddly with her dad and me. We love to touch her all the time too. Just like seeing a cute little kid with a buzz cut made me want to touch it. She is so cute! Today was her lucky day, I was home from work sick and it was just me and her laying around watching tv and playing. She loves when me or Gregg gets to stay home with her. Right now we are outside, she just snuck up on a little innocent squirrel and chased it into the tree near the end of our yard, near the creek. Louie knows better now and doesn't try to jump the creek running after them. She found out that she can't fly. But she can get wet and she didn't drown so that was a good lesson. It's a beautiful Spring day, about 78 degrees, the redbuds and greenery are coming out all over. I am sitting out on my rocking lawn chair that my sweetie gave me last year. He also hooked up my wireless LAN so I can sit out with Lou and do our taxes too. Happy Tax Day!

Spring shedo

Spring is here! I can tell by Louie's fur flying up my nose when I sit on the couch. She is about ready for her Spring cut. I hope they don't want to cut her like a lion. She looks hilarious with the lions mane and the cute ball on her tail. I can tell you that she hates that cut because she knows she looks stupid and that's one thing Louie is not. She absolutely is not stupid.

She will make us pay for the hair cut by making annoyed facial expressions and believe me she does have some expressions.

She knows she is smart. She flaunts her intelligence to everyone and especially to other dogs lacking in her gifts. She only acknowledges adults and ignores all dogs. She walks by them as if they were invisible. We thinks that she is human and not an animal. Maybe we are the animals to her!
